I also hope to highlight the diversity that makes our class so cmc markets review great, by spotlighting groups like Mi Gente, BSU, SAGA, APAM and more! During high school, I was a basketball captain, principal string bassist in the orchestra, interned for my Congressman, and founded my school’s first Mental Health Awareness Club. Having graduated high school in China, I’m acutely aware of the importance of bridging cultural and social gaps, and existing alongside each other as full humans. CMC is a place where all of us should feel fully, genuinely and authentically at home.
Henry Long 2025 Class-Elected Commencement Speech
In a remote setting, it can be challenging to get to know your peers. It’s nerve-racking being a freshman, especially in this pandemic. Thank you all, congratulations, and God bless you all.
And I witnessed people from cultures across the globe who didn’t just coexist but thrived together. I do it because growing up in Hawai’i, I was surrounded by other people of color. Specifically, I’m interested in how, as FYCP, I can develop virtual events and represent our class’ needs with an eye towards sustainability, mental health, and inclusion. My campaign values are community and accountability. I’m from the Bay Area, but I’m itching to be on campus with you all in Claremont.
U.S. Foreign Policy Outlook After the 2024 Election
I’m Zane Yamamoto and I’m running to be your first-year class president. With that in mind, feel free to message me any time– and vote for me this weekend for FYCP! I want to be the mouthpiece for our class’ issues and wishes, so I plan on taking the initiative to talk with every single first-year. In high school, I worked for the community engagement program at a local museum and successfully led clubs like Speech and Debate, Model UN, and Mock Trial. I’m Liann Bielicki, and I’m running to be your class president. Feel free to email me at or dm me at @theosiasat on Instagram.
Bill Kristol Says He Would Vote For Zohran Mamdani for New York City Mayor
A bit about me, I’m a FGLI student from Hawaii PPE + GSS. I am beyond excited to get to know my residents as well and the new faces joining the CMC community! My name is Prateek and I am so excited to be one of your Crown Hall RAs! My favorite food is any preparation of a potato, and I am OBSESSED with Jelly Cats and Squishmallows. CMC is such a tight-knit and special community, and I’m so excited to help continue building a strong, supportive, and fun space in Berger. On campus, I’m involved with SOURCE Nonprofit Consulting and Claremont Women in Business.
Class of 2024: First-Year Class President Candidate Statements
- In a remote setting, it can be challenging to get to know your peers.
- I’m Zane Yamamoto and I’m running to be your first-year class president.
- For fun, I love trying new crafting skills — sewing and crocheting are my current favorites.
- One of my favorite things about CMC is the community, and I’m really looking forward to contributing to helping make Wohlf feel like home for everyone as an RA.
- This breath, however shallow it may be, inspires a hunger for the heavenly, a thirst for the transcendent, and a recognition of our incompleteness and ignorance.
Just think for a second about how miraculous that is. We’re not just stuck wallowing in ignorance. We’re also filled with what ancient traditions call “the breath of life,” which is prana in Sanskrit, ruach in Hebrew, and psyche in Greek. But it’s a poignant reminder that we’re material creatures—for dust we are, and to dust we shall return.
We have to innovate, improvise, and improve upon the structures and systems already in place to create a CMC community that thrives digitally and feels like home to students from all walks of life. It’s impressive when first-year students step out of their comfort zones, especially by doing things such as running for class president! I’m an economics-accounting major, but in my free time, I love spending time outdoors, reading books, and playing or watching various sports. Addressing that sentiment—in a moment of rare optimism for the night—Professor Taw encouraged students to still pursue such work in the short term and urged them to learn how the system works so they can effect meaningful change later in their careers.
What You Need to Know About the Soon-to-be-Launched Data Science Major
Kristol, the son of famed conservative intellectual Irving Kristol, was born and raised in New York City. In an interview with The Forum on October 9th, Bill Kristol told Dhriti Jagadish and Shiv Parihar that he would vote for Zohran Mamdani if he were a resident of New York City. Even though we’re only one month into our virtual first semester, this class already means a lot to me. If there’s a class-wide event you want to see happen, I’ll make sure it happens. Outside of these random facts, why should you vote for me to be your first-year Class President? I haven’t declared a major yet but I am thinking of PPE (Philosophy, Politics, and Economics), PPA (Philosophy and Public Affairs), International Relations or some combination of those subjects.
Introducing the 2025-26 RAs!
I also reposted something last Wednesday, “No matter who is president, Jesus is King.” 25 of my peers had unfollowed me by the next day. At CMC, I have felt empowered to embrace controversial opinions. CMC continually achieves a high free-speech ranking and promotes effective conversations through organizations like the Athenaeum, the Open Academy and the Dreier Roundtable. The CMC community must re-commit itself to constructive dialogue.
My initiatives are meant to build and advocate for a more environmentally and socially sustainable campus community as well as to be the person you can rely on to act as your voice. My interests are all over the place and I love talking about them so please DM and let’s chat! I spent most of my time pre-Corona trying different restaurants around NYC. We’ve done an amazing job connecting online and engaging in difficult conversations and my wish is to continue to embrace change and improve our community with your help. We’ve had to be the most innovative class yet to deal with all this change- which I am proud to say we embraced beautifully. I got to see people with last names like mine hold political office, lead businesses, and serve as community leaders.
I’m always up for a hoops conversation, so feel free to come talk to me anytime! In my free time, I like dancing and scrapbooking, and my favorite place to study on campus is Heggblade (shoutout amazing DOS staff!). I was a FYG my sophomore year, which encouraged me to apply to be an RA, so I could continue building community and being a mentor on campus. I am dual majoring in Economics and Mathematics with a Data Science sequence and am also involved with Graphite Group and the Claremont Accounting Association.
- We’ve had to be the most innovative class yet to deal with all this change- which I am proud to say we embraced beautifully.
- Meanwhile, Minxin Pei, Tom and Margot Pritzker ’72 Professor of Government and George R. Roberts Fellow, an expert on China, warned of rising Sino-American tension and the potential for a crisis over Taiwan under a Trump Administration that will pursue protectionist and hawkish policies.
- I am a psychology major with a sequence in gender and sexuality studies!
- If you have any questions about my platform or just want to talk, feel free to reach out to me at or through my Instagram (@michael.gadinis)!
The universe is bigger and stranger than you could possibly imagine. If any of you have attended convocation over the past four years, you’ve heard it many times before. You can watch a video of his speech above or read a transcript of it below.
U.S. Foreign Policy Outlook After the 2024 Election
I’m excited to help cultivate a welcoming and engaging community within Fawcett and the CMC community at large. I have also retained my childhood love for books, so if you ever want to discuss your latest read or need a fun recommendation, let’s connect! On campus, I’m also a Head Consultant at the CWPD, so you’ll often find me studying/socializing in the writing center.
During the Q&A portion of the discussion, students conveyed a general sense of unease regarding how a second Trump presidency will impact America’s standing in the world—from its credibility amongst allies to its posture toward international law and human rights. In response to such concerns, Mark Huber, Professor of Mathematics and Statistics, explained that CMC is intentionally constructing the data science major to distinguish it from the computer science major. To determine the major requirements, the faculty committee looked at data science majors at other universities, considered CMC’s resources in statistics, math, and computer science, and examined the guidelines set by the American Statistical Association for data science majors. With plans to hire new professors specializing in data science, CMC currently has the faculty and resources needed to launch a data science major.
As of now, I spend my day (when I’m not doing work) cooking, making bracelets, listening to Philosophize This, and scrolling through TikTok (probably my favorite thing to do). The impacts of a pandemic turned our lives upside down and tragic events called for us to re-examine America as we know it. But I can promise that I can help lead that effort, day in and day out, to forge the kind of class WE want to see.
